Donate a Dictionary Drive (DDD)

Lively: ok. boleh tahan. ... except they look kinda...erm relaxed and laid back. maybe because they are on their back. .... and ermm..not moving. lively means full of life...right? erm? active? ermm..full of spirit and vivacity? yeah ok.

Natural:

photog: "ok sayangS, i need to take a natural shot"
bride: "ok sayang, meet me in the secondary forest in my backyard, i shall wait for you in the stream ala puteri gunung ledang. you will not lose me as i will wear my pink wedding attire complete with the veil."

groom: "ok sayang, i will don my hot pink jacket and rescue you....do you really have to be in the middle of the stream? ill get wet! but its ok, you are my everything, what is a little cold streaming water will do to me? other than give me hypothermia, ruin the fabric of my dry clean only suit and get leeches up to my private areas. and to show i do not mind all of these, i will even kiss your hand, coz i am your prince charming, here to rescue you, my fair maiden. you just sit there and wait for me in a stream in a forest wearing your dry clean only (probably rented thats why i dont care) attire."

bride: "oh sayang, i do this all the time. every evening i trek in the forest in my best baju kurung / baju kebaya / rented wedding dress/ heels and soak in the stream whilst wearing them. remember sayang? this was how we met? you were trekking in the forest wearing your best clothes/ suit/ tuxedo/office attire/ dressing shoes, and sat to rest by the stream.its only natural we are to have our photo taken like so."
yes. that made a lot of sense. very natural indeed.

or maybe he meant in natural surrounding? ?? ????

Candid: 4: relating to or being photography of subjects acting naturally or spontaneously without being posed

Maybe it waaaassss natural and spontaneous. The groom likes to scare his lady like she is a 2 years old.

"garrgghh!! i.am.a.monster! fear me!"

and the bride naturally does slightly cover her mouth with her hand and slightly smile when she is surprised

"oh my God! you like totally like surprised me! like opocot! tehehe hehe tehehe".

except i dont understand why they did this natural and spontaneous portrait in front of the mosque instead in the bedroom...on the bed. Duh! stupid me! its natural and spontaneous! it doesnt have to be explained! thats why! ....

maybe if the photo title was explained more in detail it would have made more sense..

"Candid Shot of Suami Gersang,
Tak Tahan Hendak Menikam Isteri Sebaik Sahaja Disahkan Suami Isteri. "

yup. that must have been the case.

detailed: i just love a photo showing how dangerously close the eyeliner is to my eyeball. it mixes glamour and danger-of-my-eyeball-being-poked-and-yes-you-can-see-the-inside-of-my-
bottom-eyelids-that-are-normally-hidden.
dont you love this kind of details?

i give him credit. it IS detailed. but.........i really really dont like that pencil so close to my eyeball and having that photo as your top marketing strategy.

artistic: after all the comments above. i will not comment on the imagination of the photographer. he have plenty of imagination! not doubt about that! no-uh!

i wont name the photographer for that though i actually think he takes acceptable photographs. Not my cup of teh tarik perhaps. and i am sure he have actual "lively-natural-candid-more artistic-better detailed" shots.

And maybe he just need a dictionary.

A beautiful One

I was browsing some blogs when i found this little jewel. Reminded me to do "certain" things more often.

I wish more people would tell stories like this instead of shoving "you will burn in hell! smell your own flesh burning and feel the pain from the evil of your doing in this worldly world!" down your throat when they think you're not the kind that pray, don't know how to read the Quran, commit adultery everyday, every second, drinks alcohol by the buckets and don't believe in God. and then they say they are not judgmental and men (and women) of faith. Mind you, these people dont know you, never seen you in clubs but somehow KNOW you are one of "those kind yang telah tersesat jalan". And they preach the fiery hell story and other bad things that will happen to those that follow that path.

I do know the fiery hell story but i also believe that my faith is mostly about peace, sincerity and love. and to love your faith is not through fear, but through love itself.

Cliche. i know. ah well. i rather be brought back to the right path through stories of love and compassion than something that makes me more afraid to think about, much less to believe in.

A Beautiful Hadith

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said: 'When a man dies and his relatives are busy in funeral, there stands an extremely handsome man by his head. When the dead body is shrouded, that man gets in between the shroud and the chest of the deceased.

When after the burial, the people return home, 2 angels, Munkar and Nakeer (names of two special Angels), come in the grave and try to separate this handsome man so that they may be able to interrogate the dead man in privacy about his faith. But the handsome man says, 'He is my companion, he is my friend. I will not leave him alone in any case. If you are
appointed for interrogation, do your job. I cannot leave him until I get him admitted into Paradise '.

Thereafter he turns to his dead companion and says, 'I am the Qur'an, which you used to read, sometimes in a loud voice and sometimes in a low voice. Do not worry. After the interrogation of Munkar and Naker, you will have nogrief.'

When the interrogation is over, the handsome man arranges for him from Al-Mala'ul A'laa (the angels in Heaven) silk bedding filled with musk.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said: 'On the Day of Judgement, before Allah, no other Intercessor will have a greater status than the Qur'an, neither a Prophet nor an angel.'

Please keep forwarding this 'Hadith' to all ....because Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said:

'Pass on knowledge from me even if it is only one verse'.

May Allah bestow this favour on all of us.

Gong Xi Fa Cai

Things that i associate with chinese new year; the colour red and gold, firecrackers cracking non-stop for a week from dusk till dawn, major discounts and sale everywhere, less traffic in KL, mandarin oranges, beating of drums and appearance of jumping dragons, red ang pow packets and especially for the year 2008, happy smiling people celebrating another new year for the THIRD time. its good to be in a multiracial society.

Wishing all my chinese friends, a happy chinese new year, just be gentle with the beers.

Happy Valentine and My Existing Situation

American Stationery
Dear Zuzu,
My love for you is like a white 2008 antique bike. Your tummy fills my dreams and makes me feel like aku ingin engkau slalu, hadir dan temani aku, disetiap langkah meyakini ku, kau tercipta untukku, sepanjang hidupku. When I first saw you at Ridha's openhouse my insides were like cheese. I cannot live without the knowledge of your "untuk keselamatan diri" coloring my life. I love you more than Brad Pitt and would give up Chanel just to watch you play Tetris for eternity.

Deepest Love,

And then i got stuck doing free personality tests. I thought, if i do as many as i can at one time and the results are nearly the same, there might be some truth. Maybe, im not that naive and i think one of the personality test i took said i am suspicious of everything and well even if i do believe it, dont believe me coz i can biased towards myself (in a good way. hahahaha) Ah well..

Colour Quiz is interesting because its very very quick and you just pick the colours you like the most and then repeat the process after 3 minutes.

ColorQuiz.comDayang took the free ColorQuiz.com personality test!

"Fascinated by the idea of an idealized association..."

Click here to read the rest of the results.

Dayang's Existing Situation

Active, outgoing, and restless. Feels frustrated by the slowness with which events develop along the desired lines. This leads to irritability, changeability, and lack of persistence when pursuing a given objective.Dayang's Stress Sources

Wants freedom to follow her own convictions and principles, to achieve respect as an individual in her own right. Desires to avail herself of every possible opportunity without having to submit to limitations or restrictions.Dayang's Restrained Characteristics

Believes that she is not receiving her share--that she is neither properly understood nor adequately appreciated. Feels that she is being compelled to conform, and close relationships leave her without any sense of emotional involvement.Dayang's Desired Objective

Fascinated by the idea of an idealized association of tenderness and mutual enchantment. Embarrassed by the thought of allowing this to appear openly, and so employs cautious exploratory tactics in the pursuit of this objective, making sure that she is neither irrevocably committed nor found out.Dayang's Actual Problem

Fears that her independence will be threatened or severely restricted unless she protects herself from outside influence. Does not want to be bothered.Dayang's Actual Problem #2

The unsatisfied desire to be respected, to stand out from amongst her friends, is causing some anxiety. As a result, normal gregariousness is suppressed and she refuses to allow herself to become involved, or to participate with others in their ordinary activities.

Personal DNA is fun! takes longer time to do. Perhaps the most interesting and maybe more accurate coz they ask a lot of question but because there is a lot of sliding actions (try it!), its fun and i didnt get bored answering. and....i can put my results on facebook! hahahaha OH YEAH BABEH! lets do this. and theres a psych you, psych me! thingamajing where you can ask you friends to assess your personality and then you can compare how you view yourself and how others view you ...kinda...thingy...

about you

You are an Artist

Your appreciation of beauty, ability to think abstractly, and innovativeness make you an ARTIST.

Never one to be tied to a particular way of doing things, you let your imagination guide you in discovering different possibilities.

You would rather seek out new experiences than stick to your everyday habits, taking in as much of the world as possible.

Your eye for beauty and your willingness to consider different perspectives make your creative efforts interesting—even though you may not realize this yourself.

You prefer to think about things before voicing your opinion, considering a wide, diverse range of options.

While there are forms and styles that you prefer, you tend to keep an open mind when it comes to your artistic preferences.

You are curious about things, interested in the "why" more than the “how.”

You have an active imagination that leads you express yourself in a distinct way.

If you want to be different:

Be more open to risks in your creative efforts, and don't be quick to dismiss the praise of others.

Think about how attention to detail may help you be more sure of yourself.

how you relate to others

You are Considerate

You trust others, care about them, and are slow to judge them, making you CONSIDERATE.

You value your close relationships very much, and are more likely to spend time in small, tightly-knit groups of friends than in large crowds.

You enjoy exploring the world through observation, quietly watching others.

Relating to others so well, and understanding their emotions, leads you to trust people in general, even though you're somewhat shy and reserved at times.

Your belief that people are generally well-intentioned contributes to your sympathy regarding their problems.

Although you may not vocalize it often, you have an awareness of how society affects individuals, and you understand complex causes of people's behavior.

You like to look at all sides of a situation before making a judgment, particularly when that situation involves important things in other people's lives.

Your close friends know you as a good listener.

If you want to be different:

Because other people would benefit immensely from your understanding and insight, you should try to be more outgoing in social situations, even when they make you uncomfortable. Others will want to hear what you have to say!

From this table, you can see that the two highest scoring types are INFP and INFJ. This doesn't rule out the other types. But those are the two that are closest when we 'pattern match' your questionnaire results with each of the 16 personality types

Differences between INFP and INFJ

It may help you work out your type if we compare the similarities and differences between INFP and INFJ.

One important thing to look at is which preferences 'dominate' the personality. Carl Jung and Isabel Briggs Myers said there is a 'dominant function'. What this means, in simple terms, is that two of the letters in the type code are much more important than the others.

For people with INFP preferences, the most important letters are I and F. For people with INFJ preferences, the most important letters are I and N. This means that there is a very important difference between INFP and INFJ. The letters in the type code that are particularly important for them are different, or they have different 'dominant functions'.

The Dominant Function

For INFP the most important preferences are Introverted Feeling. Your 'dominant function' is Feeling, oriented towards the inner world. This means you give importance to particular thoughts, ideas, or beliefs. You are value driven, and you often bring a sense of priority that is derived from your strong convictions. You seize upon and emphasise ideas or thoughts that have the greatest import, bringing them to the fore and stressing their significance. You assess the inherent value or importance of new ideas and beliefs, focusing on those about which you feel most strongly.

For INFJ, however, the most important preferences are Introverted Intuitiion. Your 'dominant function' is Intuition, oriented towards the inner world. You use your imagination to create new and different ideas and perspectives. You observe the world around you, and use your imagination to consider what you have observed from a number of different perspectives. You dream up new ideas and insights, often producing radical solutions to problems. You have a long term vision, and demonstrate an apparent understanding of what (as far as other people are concerned) cannot be clearly known.

Sigh...i blanked out at the difference of I and F, and I and N....So i went back to really stupid (and easy! and fun!) tests. Like this one, i did in 2 mins coz i think im getting bored with these tests.

Its from the appropriately named Bored.com

Your personality analysis based on this drawing:

Aha. i think im done with that little house on the prairie sketch.

Please Mister Postman

Wait, oh yes wait a minute mister postman
Wait, wait mister postman

Mister postman look and see
If there's a letter in your bag for me
I been waiting such a long time
Since I heard from that girl of mine

There must be some word today
From my girlfriend so far away
Please mister postman look and see
If there's a letter, a letter for me
I been standing here waiting mister postman
So patiently
For just a card or just a letter
Saying she's returning home to me

So many days you passed me by
See the tear standing in my eye
You didn't stop to make me feel better
By leaving me a card or a letter

Please Mr. Postman, look and see
If there's a letter, oh yeh for me,
I've been waiting, a long long time
Since I've heard from that girlfriend of mine.

You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
You gotta wait a minute, wait a minute
You gotta check it and see, one more time for me

Wait
Wait
Wait
Deliver the letter, the sooner the better

Where oh Where

I'm in a dilemma.

Certain things you value are kept in safe keeping.
The problem with me is, it is kept so safe that i can't find them anymore! Even after searching through all the usual spots. Hmmm

This is a conundrum indeed. How do you look for something that you yourself have hidden and can't remember where?

Tanya pada laci, nampakkah CD-cd ku,
nanti laci jawap, awak letak di meja
tanya sama meja, mana cd ku,
nanti meja jawap, mana aku tahu

Sigh...

Here's the actual lyrics to the song i've been singing ridiculously while looking for my stuff.

"Tanya pada pokok, apa sebab goyang
nanti jawab pokok angin yang goncang
tanya sama langit, apa sebab hujan
nanti jawab langit, tanya lah awan

Awan nanti kata, aku kandung air
sampai tempat sejuk, aku pun cair
tengok dalam air, nampak bayang-bayang
campak satu batu, bayang pun hilang

Tanya sama hati, apa asal sayang
apakah tandanya nampak di pandang
kumbang rayu bunga
bulan dan bintangnya
punya tanda-tanda hubungan mesra

Tanya sama hati
pernahkah merindu
ingat masa lena apa mimpimu
masa berjauhan
apa nan dikenang
bila difahamkan itulah sayang

Jikalau tidak kerana sayang
kuntuman kasih tak mungkin kembang
andainya jemu mengganti rindu
jambangan mesra tentulah layu

Tanya sama hati
pernahkah merindu
ingat masa lena apa mimpimu
masa berjauhan
apa nan dikenang
bila difahamkan itulah sayang
itulah sayang..."

P Ramlee and Normadiah

While searching for the video for this, i finally found my favourite song by P Ramlee that i have been searching for ages, "Tunggu Sekejap" in Sarjan Hassan. This song have been in my favourite lovesong playlist since i don't know when, but it has always been in my mind since i can remember. Only recently i know it was from P Ramlee and the movie Sarjan Hassan. Youtube video doesn't feature the scene that i remembered, heck. i remembered a girl singing it from the windowsill of her wooden house and as she sings, the scene shifted from her being a young girl into a young lady, singing the same song but with a different tune. How am i to know it was from a P Ramlee movie if i only remembered the girl.

If you are well acquainted with me, i am sure there are times when someone is about the leave i would suddenly belt "Jangaaannn pulangggg, jangan tinggalkan daku sorang, tungguuuuu sekejappp" out. I blame the song that won't leave my head, EVER.

If only i could remember the location of my safe keeping spot as well as the Sarjan Hassan scene.

Oh my sweet and tender love

*photo by Fong Saunder@ Fongsaunder on DA

How does one describe the smell of durian?

Sweat drenched socks?
Pungent onions?
A dump site on a very warm day?
All of the above?

Most times, you smell it before you see it as its odour can be detected metres away, especially on a hot day. Its smell is definitely unique and cannot be confused with no other. .

I, would describe it as ...

rich, savoury slightly sweet odour that makes my mouth water at the mere sniff of it. I can taste it it my mouth, yummy, creamy, succulent durian. . Yes, classical conditioning at work. I am one of Pavlov's dog, completely Pavlovised, automatically salivate at the mere sight of durian stalls by the roadside or a hint of its oh so strong sweet smell.

Obviously, i LOVE durians.

Due to its smell that can be overpowering to some and the creamy texture of its pulp, durian is a required taste. Its either you love it, or you hate it. If you hate it, too bad, gimme your share. Because to me, the flavour of its creamy, tender, pale to rich yellow coloured pulp is divine!

It is like heaven! To enter heaven, one must go through many obstacles in life, mostly difficult and require patience and acts of faith. But once you're in, you never want to leave, you never know true joy and happiness before it, it is the ultimate reward. Very very much like durians. Durian, with its sharp thorns and thick husk, is difficult to open and require a well oiled technique to open it but the taste of its pulp is worth every marks on your hands, left by the thorns and the offensive smell turns to delight and sweetness you cannot describe.

A 17th century British naturalist (geographer, anthropologist, biologist and explorer) described it best;
"The five cells are silky-white within, and are filled with a mass of firm, cream-coloured pulp, containing about three seeds each. This pulp is the eatable part, and its consistence and flavour are indescribable. A rich custard highly flavoured with almonds gives the best general idea of it, but there are occasional wafts of flavour that call to mind cream-cheese, onion-sauce, sherry-wine, and other incongruous dishes. Then there is a rich glutinous smoothness in the pulp which nothing else possesses, but which adds to its delicacy. It is neither acid nor sweet nor juicy; yet it wants neither of these qualities, for it is in itself perfect. It produces no nausea or other bad effect, and the more you eat of it the less you feel inclined to stop. In fact, to eat Durians is a new sensation worth a voyage to the East to experience. ... as producing a food of the most exquisite flavour it is unsurpassed."

Why am i writing all this?

because i just saw a durian stall by the roadside at Hartamas Square but i had no money to buy any, even one fruit or a pulp. So i shall salivate and wait till tomorrow until i can drag my father to buy a dozen or more to satisfy my craving of sweet, tender durian.

But until then, i can only imagine the taste of it wrapped on my tongue, lingers in my mouth and breathe the smell on to others!

OH, I CANT WAIT! yummyummyyummy!

*as i was browsing for my daily laughs @[xkcd.com]

I always do this and get asked the same question, when the answer is very much obvious ie: Spinning. Next time Lingling ask me "what are you doing?" as he watch me going round and round and round, i'll answer this, i promise.

providing i remember my own name first and foremost as my brain mucus and other eww inspiring stuff stir and spin around like drained cabbages in that empty space up there.

خيانة زوجية امراءة قحبة

Was surfing YouTube a couple of minutes ago and when i'm bored i usually check the "Videos being watched right now" section. Its the acceptable version of watching behind other people's shoulder kinda thing when i saw this Arabic titled video and a screen capture that looked like a hotel room. Now the 'jaga tepi kain orang" attitude comes out. Manalah tau videoklip tangkap basah ke apa in Saudi Arabia. Nak tau la jugak la kan. Sibuk. Turns out it was a couple of risque mat saleh television ads. Hmmm .... are Arabs that desperate to be turned on that they have to watch tv ads on Youtube? I need a translation for this.

Just Dance!

When you think about prison inmates, the words that would first come to mind to describe them are macho, tough, gang members, tattoos bearing hardcore criminals, sexual deviants, drugs, and even Micheal Scofield from Prison Break (yummylicious Scofield...hmmmmmmm).

Yes, they might be any of those if not all of those things describe and more, but you tend to forget that they are still humans with the need to have fun and have the ability to ...DANCE!

(click on arrows to move between videos: Clips included are CPDRC's latest routine Rico Mambo, BEP's Beebo march and Thriller)

Though we tend to laugh while watching these clips, you can't help but wonder the reason why behind it. A new form of torture? as personal entertainment slaves of the prison management, namely Byron Garcia, Cebu Security Adviser, the brain behind the dancing prisoners? Some YouTube's viewers are claiming to be so. I can't claim otherwise, nor likewise. Neither will i state my opinion on something i don't much about.

In my opinion, it encourages discipline and camaraderie for the inmates. I (touch wood) never been IN a prison before but based on the documentaries I've watched on Discovery, movies I've watched, and articles and books I've read, it must be boring and mind numbing with repetitive activities and closed spaces with strong psychological reasonings behind it.

In Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Centre (CPDRC), the dancing are actually part of their physical fitness regime. Not only it made exercise enjoyable, it has other behavioral effects on the inmates as well. It was claimed that since this form of exercise was introduced, violence between inmates and guards have minimised drastically and so have gang cultures. It sure is a way for the inmates to have a little bit of fun (even if they were forced to dance if they are not the elderly or infirm), enjoy themselves once in awhile and make a break away (pardon the pun) from the norm of prison life.

I do hope that is the case. and some inmates really have become dancers once they have rehabilitated and allowed once again to be outside the walls of CPDRC.

Hmm back to the videos!
And finally, the video that made me laugh non-stop while watching it: The Algorithm March.

(Videos included are CPDRC's World Record Breaker Algorithm March and Algorithm March by the original performers Itsumo Kokokara for Pitagora Suitchi)

The Algorithm March was not intended to by funny, it is (believe it or not) just another way to demonstrate one of the basics of mathematics fundamental principle to Japanese children. Trust Japanese shows to come out with hilarious (AND educational) dance moves that would be copied all over the world and danced by hardcore prisoners.

A couple of the simplest definitions of Algorithm are as followed

al·go·rithm Pronunciation: \ˈal-gə-ˌri-thəm\

Function:noun
Etymology:alteration of Middle English algorisme, from Old French & Medieval Latin; Old French, from Medieval Latin algorismus, from Arabic al-khuwārizmi, from al-Khwārizmī fl a.d. 825 Islamic mathematician
Date:1926

1. "a procedure for solving a mathematical problem (as of finding the greatest common divisor) in a finite number of steps that frequently involves repetition of an operation; broadly : a step-by-step procedure for solving a problem or accomplishing some end especially by a computer (Merriam-Webster)"

2. "No human being can write fast enough, or long enough, or small enough to list all members of an enumerably infinite set by writing out their names, one after another, in some notation. But humans can do something equally useful, in the case of certain enumerably infinite sets: They can give explicit instructions for determining the nth member of the set, for arbitrary finite n. Such instructions are to be given quite explicitly, in a form in which they could be followed by a computing machine, or by a human who is capable of carrying out only very elementary operations on symbols" (Boolos and Jeffrey (1974, 1999), p. 19).

Aha....very simple indeed.

And if you're crazy enough to know more about Algorithm (and its definition) just go here and well, knock yourself out cold

OR

you could take the definition from the Algorithm March and its demonstration by those Japanese to understand what it is all about.

3. "The exercises (id) from Algorithm Exercises are developed. Lines of more than 2 people are formed, and they begin moving canon style one at a time. The movements of the first and last person become connected." (Wikipedia)

The Algorithm March was designed for Pitagora Suitchi (Pythagoras Switch) an educational Japanese children's TV show on NHK Educational Channel and originally performed by Japan's comedic duo Itsumo Koko Kara .

What have been done by Pitagora Suitchi and CPDRC's prison management are examples of serious out of the box thinking to make mathematics interesting to children and adults alike and a way to install discipline, teamwork and to implement a healthy exercise regime, yet fun for prison inmates.

After writing the main essence of this blog, i found the Al-Jazeera's and CNN's reports and BBC's article on the dancing CPDRC's inmates on YouTube.

(Videos included are from Al-Jazeera and CNN)

My guesses were right, Vince Rosales, the choreographer was scared shitless by the thought of teaching hardcore inmates dancing in sync with the music and he was initially thrown slippers by inmates who...well..probably dancing is too gay and would like to retain their macho-ness. Hell, if i were a guy i still wouldn't pick a fight with any of the inmates in there even if they do dance to YMCA.

Excuse me ... i have the strong urge to dance with ninjas and prisoners in Cebu so i must learn this dance.

"take one step forward and reach forward
take one step forward and you're a better person...dududu"
